Malaysia to place large Boeing order
Malaysia Airlines (Kuala Lumpur) has agreed to purchase thirty-five (35) 737-800 aircraft from Boeing (Chicago) in a deal worth more than $4.2 billion USD. The deal also will include options for an additional twenty (20) jetliners. Aircraft are slated for delivery beginning in 2011 when the airline will start replacing its current fleet. The airline had reportedly been shopping for new aircraft for months now. Airbus (Toulouse) had submitted a proposal to supply the airline with A320s and A321s, but the Boeing model was chosen for ‘technical reasons’. Malaysia Airlines is expected to make an announcement on the deal soon, an official said.
